Direct Digital Radiography (DR): Main / IDC / Canon / AFP (veterinary/dental)
DR stands for “Direct Digital Radiography.” A DR system replaces your existing x-ray
room altogether. As opposed to CR, DR creates the digital image as soon as the x-ray has
been taken. This immediate result drastically increases workflow and is a major advantage of
DR. Once the image appears on the workstation, it has the ability to be manipulated (i.e.
window/level, zoom, measure distances & angles, make notations, etc.) and archived digitally.
Another major advantage is found in that DR systems generally require fewer retakes thanks to their extended exposure latitude. Because of this factor, patient radiation dose almost always is reduced.
